Conference Summary

The International Conference on Chemical Engineering & Industrial Biotechnology 2016 (ICCEIB2016) was organized by the Faculty of Chemical & Natural Resources Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Pahang in collaboration with LKPP Corporation Sdn. Bhd., Centre of Excellence for Advanced Research in Fluid Flow (CARIFF), Energy Institute, Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and Proses Systems Engineering Research Group (PSERG), UMP.

The theme for ICCEIB 2016 is “Emerging for Sustainable Future”. This conference is designed to disseminate the latest research findings and advances in the chemical engineering and industrial biotechnology area to society. Specifically, focusing on demand, supplies, storage, and transportation issues in food, energy, and water nexus. These areas have become high concerns to the private sector, researchers, academics, industrialists and policy makers. This conference attracted more than 190 participants from Malaysia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Sudan, Indonesia and Singapore. The conference was successfully conducted from 28th-30th November 2016 in Bayou Lagoon Park Resort, Melaka, Malaysia.
The programme commenced with a very warm welcome speech from the chairman of the ICCEIB2016, Prof. Dr. Abdurahman Nour on 29th November 2016 and then the 1st keynote speech was given by Prof. Dr. Mashitah Mohd Yusoff from Universiti Malaysia Pahang with the title ‘Natural Products to Drug Discovery: Lessons from the Ancients’.

The official opening ceremony was started with the welcome address by Vice Chancellor of UMP, Professor Dato' Dr. Daing Mohd Nasir Bin Ibrahim. The conference was officiated by the Deputy Secretary General (Management), Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Dato ’Kamel Ahmad. During the officiation, a MOU/MOA Exchange Ceremony was also held. This ceremony is a joint ceremony between the ICCEIB 2016 and the FKKSA Management. The exchange ceremony involved with 7 organizations; Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur (IUKL), Malaysia Institut Teknologi Petroleum Petronas (INSTEP), Creative Arts Technology & Science College (CATS), MERCU Resolution Sdn. Bhd, Setegap Ventures Petroleum Sdn. Bhd. (SVP), Malaysian Metal Resources Sdn. Bhd. (MMR) dan Universiti Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), Indonesia. The FKKSA also commence the Journal of Chemical Engineering and Industrial Biotechnology (JCEIB) and Journal on Malaysian Critical Metals (MyCM) during the officiation.

Then the even was proceed with 2nd keynote speech which was given by Datuk Ir Ahmad Fauzi Hasan from Energy Commission of Malaysia. Our 3rd keynote speaker was Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz from Rare Earth Resaerch Center, Universiti mlaysia Pahang. The title of the speech was A Review on Malaysian Critical Metals as National Security issue: Supply Risk and Technology Development. We also had a speaker from Indah Water Konsortium as our 4th speaker which was Ir. Mod Adnan Md Dom with the title of the speech was Standard Sewage Treatment Plant (Stp) For Malaysian Sewerage Sector. The 5th keynote speaker was Mr. Shahrul Azman with the title ‘Integrated Process Optimization’. Mr Shahrul is currently a Custodian Engineer in PETRONAS Global Technical Solutions Sdn. Bhd.

The main conference program included over 138 selected oral presenters. The oral presentation consists of 5 keynotes, 4 plenaries and 129 oral presenters. Up to four parallel sessions were held on the following topics;

On 30th November 2016, 10 best paper awards have been announced and delivered during the conference dinner.
